All teachers need a support system especially those in the beginning years of service. Research shows that there's a tremendous need for new teachers to receive mentoring in order to be successful. Let's provide ways for them to do that and build confidence in harnessing the power of social media to connect to resources and to those in the field who can stand in the Gap to support them. Lisa has an extensive educational background having worked as a school principal, federal project director and teacher. She holds a BA in Child Development and an M.Ed in Educational Administration. Lisa is active in her community and serves as the VP of her towns Literacy Non-Profit.
Lisa is an educational & social media consultant, author, blogger, podcaster and speaker. Lisa's passion to support and mentor new & pre-service teachers led her to found New Teacher Chat #ntchat on Twitter. This chat was founded in 2010 and just celebrated a 6 year anniversary! Lisa's work is varied and spirited! She is a Resident Blogger at Edutopia.org and has served as part of Edutopia's Social Media Team and recently as the CA Community Manager at Remind. Lisa is currently part of the Social Media Team at Amazon TenMarks and an Amazon Education Thought Leader. She's also an Adjunct Professor at the University of La Verne working with pre-service teachers.
Lisa is a published author with Corwin Publishing. Her book "Standing in the Gap: Empowering New Teachers Through Connected Resources" is part of the Connected Educator Series. Her work on #ntchat is what inspired the book. She recently joined the Hack Learning Teamand her second book will be published with them in Fall 2016.
