Dorian is an inspiring administrator, a mother, spouse, daughter, best friend, and mostly importantly “herself.” She has an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Saginaw Valley State University. Dorian possess her administrative certification along with a current teaching certificate. She is currently a 5th grade teacher in Detroit Public Schools with over ten years of teaching experience plus 3 years in administration. During Dorian’s time as assistant principal, she has lead curriculum initiatives that have raised student achievement, lead the team in establishing Positive Behavior Support and Response to Intervention, as well as operating as the disciplinary leader for the student body.
Along with these experiences in administrative leadership, Dorian possess many qualities that make her a successful leader. She has a passion for providing students with a positive learning environment that nurtures their achievement and creativity. Dorian also has the ability to nurture relationships with all stakeholders, including boards of directors, administrative teams, teachers, parents, and most importantly, students. All in all, she is dedicated to providing a high quality learning environment for all students that nurtures innovation from the staff, creativity and mastery of skills for the students, positive communications with parents and families, and high expectations for all.
So what is left to do in 2016? “I have two items on my professional bucket list that I would like to explore: number one, becoming a presenter at edcamps and conferences; number two, using more technology in the classroom,” she said.
